Horse Harbor Foundation has rescued over 60 horses in its years
of operation, most of them elderly or in other ways compromised. Many of these were seizures by local animal control
that were put up for adoption but could not find homes. The Foundation has vowed that no horse from the area it serves will
be euthanized before its time, and therefore always finds a way to take these animals in. Although original plans were to
quarter only 20 horses at its location, which was acquired in 2005, the economic downturn of the past two years and the subsequent
increase in the number of displaced horses has required us to expand our permanent herd. We currently have 27 resident horses—21
at the actual sanctuary, including two ponies sharing a large stall, and 6 in nearby fostered locations. Three more have been
accepted and are being held by their owner with our assistance in care and feeding until accommodations can be found for them.
All of our horses have found a lifelong home and safe refuge
at Horse Harbor. We are also currently developing a sponsorship program for our horses, in which donors can select one member
of the herd to support through financial aid dedicated to that individual animal. You can meet the current members of our
herd by clicking on the links that correspond to each of our horses. Each horse’s sponsor will also be listed with it.
