When Fay, a Thoroughbred
mare, was young, she was a racehorse. She met the sad fate of many of her breed, for the racing industry refuses to take responsibility
for the thousands of horses it dumps each year. Now, she is at least 30 years old and retired. She was one of the worst cases
of neglect the Humane Society seized. Because of special care requirements, she was not put up for adoption and instead was
turned over to the Foundation.
Though still thin, Fay is on a special diet and slowly
gaining weight. She doesn’t have molars, which makes digestion difficult. She has proven to be one of the sweetest horses
we have ever cared for, and she is closely bonded with Honey.
