Josey, a 29-year-old Quarter Horse, was acquired by the Foundation when she was
23. Her owner was unable to care for her properly and was also afraid to ride her. The problem was not the horse; the Foundation
discovered that Josey was well trained, and it was just the owner's lack of skill that made the horse seem intimidating.
This palomino mare suffered through two serious bouts of sand colic before being taken
by the Foundation, but proper feed and care has kept her healthy since, though she has had trouble holding her weight. Due
to her age, Josey is now retired from the school and instead spends her field time with her inseparable pal Rosie.
