The foundation is affiliated with a number of animal sanctuary groups including:
Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries: International organization for establishing and recognizing highest standards of nonprofit sanctuary operation. Horse Harbor earned fully accredited status originally in 2010, the first on the West Coast and fifth in the United States to do so. Although no longer a member since GFAS began supporting equine kill shelters which we do not believe in, we still maintain standards exceeding those used today.
Washington Federation of Animal Care and Control Agencies: The state’s umbrella group for nonprofit animal rescue and sanctuary organizations that is active in legislative affairs concerning animal welfare.
American Horse Defense Coalition: An organization dedicated to ending equine slaughter in Washington and the rest of the U.S. Horse Harbor’s Allen Warren is a founder and President of this national equine welfare group.
West Sound Equine Rescue Partners: A partnership between Horse Harbor Foundation in Kitsap County, Center Valley Animal Rescue in Jefferson County and Sunrise Equine Rescue in Mason County that works together to save at-risk horses in our region.
Canadian Horse Defence Coalition: Canadian organization dedicated to ending equine slaughter. Horse Harbor is the only U.S. equine rescue sanctuary recognized by this organization.
Homes for Horses Coalition: A national organization representing the American horse rescue community.
American Traditional Horse Rescue Community: National organization representing nonprofit horse rescuers across the country who are opposed to premature euthanasia for rescued horses.
